When we pick software, we want programs that are intuitive and easy to use. TestNet meets these ideals. TestNet can be used for any subject: manufacturing, computer-assisted learning, literature, history, foreign languages, English, etc. If you use TestNet with a foreign language, DOS will allow you to change your keyboard to Spanish, German, French, etc. When you do this, the special characters peculiar to these languages are shown on the screen when you press the appropriate keys. WHAT IS TESTNET? It (1) aids in the creation of tests or drills, and it (2) manages these tests or drills. It aids creation by providing a special screen and word processor for convenient writing and editing. It manages information by presenting the tests/drills: (1) on the screen or (2) by sending them to a printer. All program choices are listed on pulldown menus. FEATURES 1. Specialized word processor for creating tests. 2. Tests can also be created by combining test or by selecting questions from an existing test bank. 3. A name/student-number file can be created per class. A teacher can then require a student to type his or her number before taking the test. The student's name will be associated automatically with the test and score. 4. An editor allows easy editing of an existing test, of student names and numbers, and a few other files used by TestNet. 5. If the test is set for Drill Mode, questions keep returning at the end of the test until they are answered correctly. 6. If the test is set for Test Mode, the questions do not appear again unless the student places that question on hold. To do this the student types z for the answer. 7. A tutorial response can be shown if the student's answer is wrong. 8. All missed questions can be reviewed at the end of the test. 9. All tests are scored immediately and the scores and students' names are saved. 10. Two password systems allow protection: a. for all menu choices except taking a computer test; b. for taking a computer administered test. Each test can have its own password. On a network, each teacher has his or her own password. 11. All features are quickly available with pulldown menus. Thus, it is easy to remember how to use the program. 12. Test results can be printed to the screen or to a printer. Test results can be viewed on the screen in various sorted orders. 13. All the data associated with each question can be reviewed on the screen by the teacher. 14. Questions can be printed and grouped according to: true/false, multiple choice, and completion. 15. Questions can be printed with the user picking only selected questions from the data base. 16. Questions can be printed sequentially, just as they appear in the data base, or randomly. 17. An answer sheet always accompanies each printed test. 18. Users can select either color or monochrome depending on the type of monitor. 19. An evaluation of the test gives the following information: a. how many students took the test; b. the average score; c. the high and low scores; d. the range; e. which questions were missed how many times; g. the standard deviation. 20. With a menu choice, the teacher can copy test files from drive a: to the appropriate hard drive directory. 21. Help screens support each general menu category. 22. A slide show helps orient new users. 26. The documentation is always available on the pulldown menus. 27. Programmed to be networkable. One copy of the EXE files serves all teachers, yet each teacher has his or her own passwords and tests. 28. TestNet automatically updates old tests created by earlier versions of TMaker and Test Maker. 29. TestNet will read PCX graphic files, thus allowing a teacher to use pictures when presenting a test. GETTING STARTED The files need to be installed on a hard disk. Use the install program to do this. Just type INSTALL and press ENTER. At the end of the install session, TestNet will load automatically. Later, to load TestNet, log to the appropriate directory and type TNET and press ENTER. TestNet can be installed on any directory. If you copy the files to a directory other than the one created during the install session, log to your new directory and type TSTART. This allows you to tell TestNet where the EXE files are located. Once you type TSTART, just follow the onscreen instructions. The files can also be run from a floppy disk. If you do this, you would first need to type TSTART to tell TestNet where the needed files are located. The information requested by TSTART is saved in a file called DRIVE.BAS. Once you are in the program, from the Quit Menu, Press S (Slide Show Demo) to get an overview of the program. Next take the sample test. To take a test, press T (Test). Press T again (Take Test). Try the test, "Trivia2." Once this test is taken, use View and see your score. Take the test again and use the View choice again. You will easily see how the program works.
